Six points an OEM & ODM operator can be customised on

Appearance, branding, programme, app control, market-specific features and certification — the six things partners most often make their own.

Working with an OEM & ODM operator is less about picking a catalogue item than agreeing on the points a partner wants to make genuinely their own. With more than ten years of research and production behind our garage door, rolling door and high-speed door operators, we have seen the same six areas come up again and again in customisation talks. This article walks through each of them in turn.

1. Appearance, structure and colourway

The housing, mounting structure and colour scheme are the first things a partner tends to localise, because they decide how the operator reads on the shelf and on the door.

  • Housing shape, surface finish and material treatment
  • Mounting brackets and structural layout adjusted to the door type
  • Colourway matched to the partner's range or a specific market preference
  • Labelling positions prepared for the partner's own visual language

2. Branding and packaging

For a private label programme, branding travels well beyond the product itself and reaches into every printed and packed item the end customer touches.

Our series AS, IN, INS, SES, DC, SEH and BL can all be prepared around a partner's own brand identity, supported by TORSION 1–3 and the matching door control accessories.

  • Logo applied to the operator body and remote controls
  • Carton, inserts and user manual produced under the partner's label
  • Model naming and series references aligned with the partner's catalogue
  • Accessory sets (TORSION 1–3, door control accessories) packed to the partner's grouping

3. Programme and functional settings

Firmware behaviour and functional set-points are where an operator starts to feel like a different product, even when the hardware is shared.

  • Travel limits, speed and soft start / soft stop tuned to the door
  • Safety-relevant stopping and reversing behaviour configured to the market
  • Operating logic and control inputs adapted to the partner's commissioning routine

4. App control — Bluetooth and Wi-Fi

App control is now a standard expectation in many markets, and the two connection routes serve different needs.

  • Bluetooth for local setup, pairing and on-site configuration
  • Wi-Fi for remote operation, status checks and connected-home integration
  • App branding, account and cloud settings customised for the partner

5. Market-specific technical features

Different destinations put different technical demands on the same operator platform, and those demands shape the final specification.

Residential garage door operators, rolling door operators and high-speed door operators each carry their own priorities, from duty cycle to environmental protection.

  • Voltage, frequency and plug type matched to the destination market
  • Duty cycle and force settings suited to the door weight and usage pattern
  • Environmental sealing and temperature range chosen for the region
  • Additional inputs and outputs for the local installation style

6. Certification support

Certification is often the point where customisation meets compliance, and it is best planned early rather than retrofitted.

  • CE-MD, CE-EMC and CE-RED documentation aligned with the configuration
  • GS and UL routes prepared where the target market requires them
  • Standards coverage guided by EN 60335-2-95, EN 60335-2-103, EN 12453, ISO 13849 and UL 325
  • Technical files and declarations assembled together with the partner
Customising an operator is not a single decision. It is a sequence of six choices, and the earlier a partner settles them, the smoother certification and launch become.

If you would like to discuss which of these six points fit your programme, our OEM & ODM team is ready to work through the options with you.
